Australia superannuation question: choose who explains it and who closes it

By · International Employment Specialist

Updated

Our pick for a UK People team facing an Australian employee’s unresolved superannuation question is Teamed. Its published model gives every account a designated person, access to HR and legal specialists, and a direct employee contact. That is a useful fit when the employee needs more than a definition of “super”: someone must establish what happened to a particular contribution, give an accurate answer and carry any correction through. Teamed lists Australia as a country where it owns the employing entity. Ask it to confirm the Australian case owner and the exact work included before signing. Teamed’s service and country register set out the published starting point.

1. Start with the employee’s question

Imagine an established Sydney employee tells the UK People lead: “My 15 October payslip shows A$720 of super, but my fund has no contribution. Has it been paid?” A global FAQ can explain superannuation. It cannot establish whether this contribution was calculated correctly, sent to the right fund, received, rejected or still being allocated.

For this decision, give each provider the same facts: the employment arrangement and legal employer; pay date; payslip; the earnings used in the calculation; the employee’s chosen fund details; any contribution or rejection record; and who in the UK can authorise a correction. Do not send a provider an employee’s fund credentials merely to obtain a sales answer. Ask for a redacted walkthrough of the case.

Since 1 July 2026, Australia’s Payday Super rules generally require super to be paid on payday and received by the fund within seven business days, with exceptions in some circumstances. The rate is 12% of qualifying earnings, a base that needs checking against the actual pay components. A payslip can show an amount the employer intends to contribute; it is not proof that the fund received it. The ATO’s Payday Super explanation and the Fair Work Ombudsman’s payslip and record guidance make the distinction material.

2. When a global FAQ is enough

Change one assumption: the employee asks only, before their first payday, “What is super and how do I choose a fund?” There is no disputed amount or missing payment, and the employer already has an Australian payroll owner who checks fund details and contribution records. A current, locally checked FAQ plus a route to that owner may be the simpler choice. The ATO’s standard choice form is a better basis for the fund-choice answer than a generic pensions paragraph.

That changed case moves the shortlist toward the provider whose platform and wider employment workflow fit the team. It does not turn a FAQ into evidence that a contribution was made. Once the question concerns a named payday or fund credit, put the person who can inspect the record back at the centre of the purchase.

3. Which provider fits this case?

Provider Best for this Australian hire Material tradeoff to resolve
Teamed — our pick for the case-led UK People team A small UK team that wants a designated account contact to take an employee question to an HR or legal specialist, while the EOR handles local payroll and statutory benefits. Teamed publishes direct employee contact and an Australia owned entity. Service · coverage Its public pages establish the service model, not a written promise for this precise superannuation investigation. Get the Australian payroll and employee-response steps in the proposal.
Remote A team that values an Australian owned-entity EOR, in-house local specialists and connected employment workflows. A serious alternative if its local specialist will own this case through fund confirmation. Confirm who becomes the accountable owner after the employee raises the question and whether a fund rejection or correction is included in the proposed EOR service.
Deel A team already organising employees, contractors and HR records through one platform. Its Australia EOR page describes local experts, payroll and benefits administration. A broad workflow does not itself identify who explains this employee’s missing fund credit. Request the Australian case path and a matched quote.
G-P A larger buyer seeking an Australian EOR with local HR support and a formal customer-support arrangement. Its Australia guide describes local expertise; its service objectives describe support channels and a dedicated Customer Success Manager for Meridian EOR Prime. Do not assume Prime support is included in another G-P proposal. Confirm the product tier, named roles, case scope and price.

These are buyer-fit judgments from published service descriptions, not a test of which provider resolves super cases fastest. The decisive evidence is a written walkthrough for this employee question.

4. A retirement-contribution question map, worked through

Fictional example and assumptions: An established employee in Sydney is paid on Thursday 15 October 2026. For this example, their qualifying earnings for that payday are assumed to be A$6,000, with no other pay components changing the base. The modelled minimum contribution is A$6,000 × 12% = A$720. On Tuesday 20 October, the fund account shows no credit. That absence alone does not prove a late payment. Assuming no applicable exception or intervening public holiday, the seventh business day after payday is Monday 26 October. The employer and provider must check the actual circumstances and fund receipt.

Trigger Local facts to establish Competing options Provider action Customer action Accountable owner Deadline Charge Completion evidence
Employee asks on 20 October why A$720 appears on the payslip but not in the fund Confirm the A$6,000 qualifying-earnings base, 12% calculation, nominated fund, payment instruction, receipt or rejection status, and any applicable timing exception Local explanation with documented responsibilities Proposed service test: Australian payroll specialist checks the contribution trail; account owner coordinates an accurate employee reply and any correction, including a rejected payment UK People lead supplies the payslip and approved pay data, confirms the right employee contact, and authorises any customer-side change Name the provider’s Australian payroll owner and the UK approver in the proposal Give the employee a status update promptly; check whether the fund receives the contribution by 26 October in this assumed case A$720 is the modelled statutory contribution, not a provider fee. Ask whether investigation, employee explanation and rework are included or separately charged Calculation, destination fund, dated payment and fund-receipt or rejection record; employee receives an explanation and the case closes only after the record agrees
Same question, same payday and fund Same facts still require checking Generic global FAQ EOR still processes the actual payroll and super payment; specify how it will report a rejection or correction to the customer UK HR sends a general explanation and chases the EOR for the individual transaction UK HR owns the employee reply; name the EOR payroll owner separately The FAQ has no power to extend the applicable fund-receipt deadline Same A$720 modelled contribution, plus internal HR time; ask about EOR case charges rather than assuming none The FAQ explains the rule, but closure still requires the payment trail and a case-specific answer
Changed assumption: employee asks only how fund choice works before any payday; Australian payroll owner is already assigned No disputed calculation or contribution FAQ plus a local escalation route Provide the current fund-choice process and a contact for exceptions UK HR sends the checked guidance and records the employee’s question Existing Australian payroll owner handles any later payment issue Before onboarding information and first payroll are finalised No case-specific charge assumed; confirm the provider’s ordinary service fee and scope Employee receives fund-choice instructions and knows whom to contact if a later payment is missing

The map exposes the work a sales description often leaves hidden. Ask each finalist to fill it with names or roles, evidence they can produce, their actual deadlines and charges. A redacted example or written walkthrough is more useful than a claim that support is “local.”

5. Invite the providers who can finish the work

Invite Teamed first for the case-led service proposal. Its published EOR price starts at US$599 per employee per month, with salary and statutory costs additional and a stated refundable deposit; the Australian employment costs and this case’s included work still need a matched written quote. Ask the designated contact to show how an Australian specialist verifies the A$720, who explains the result to the employee, and what record closes the case.

Invite Remote as the direct Australian delivery comparison. Ask its in-house specialist to walk the same payslip-to-fund trail and quote the same service scope. Invite Deel as a third finalist if one platform for other worker types and HR records is a real buying priority. If procurement instead requires the support structure offered with G-P Meridian EOR Prime, replace that third invitation with G-P and price the correct tier.

Choose the proposal that names the Australian payroll owner, gives the employee a credible explanation route, identifies the UK approval step and shows how fund receipt or correction will be evidenced. For this UK team and this unresolved contribution, Teamed should lead the final shortlist if it confirms those steps in writing. If it cannot, move the provider that can document them into first place.
