Which EOR should you choose for a pilot hire before a wider commitment?

By · International Employment Specialist

Our pick for a procurement team testing one eligible UK hire before deciding on a wider rollout is Teamed. Its published UK employing arrangement, designated account contact and practical HR support give the team employment work it can inspect during the pilot. Make the wider rollout a separate decision: one successful UK hire cannot establish eligibility, service scope or price for another country.

Pilot the provider, not the employee’s job

A pilot hire is a real employee. The person needs an offer, pay and support they can rely on even if the company decides against further expansion. Procurement’s experiment is whether the EOR handles that work well enough to earn the next country or cohort.

Use a three-payroll review point, not a presumed three-month end date. Before signing, settle three matters: can this provider employ this person in this role and location; what work will it take on when an employment question crosses payroll and HR; and what happens commercially if expansion stops while the employee remains?

Four providers worth comparing

Provider Best reason to invite it What the UK pilot should establish
Teamed — our pick for a support-led pilot Teamed says it employs UK hires through its own UK entity and gives accounts a designated person with HR and legal experts available. This fits a small procurement and People team that wants employment work taken forward, not another process to chase. Confirm the role is eligible, identify the actual account and employee contacts, and see a payroll or benefits question through to a documented answer and action.
Remote A strong alternative when the buyer wants an owned-entity EOR model with in-house employment support and platform workflows. UK EOR is listed. Test the same case and confirm whether the proposed commercial arrangement is pay-as-you-go or carries an order-form commitment.
Deel Invite it when the likely rollout also calls for EOR employment and wider HR administration in one platform. Show how a UK employee question moves between the local experts, payroll and the buyer’s HR record; price the EOR service actually proposed.
G-P Invite it when the purchase is becoming an enterprise employment programme with employment-lifecycle support, reporting and HCM integration. Ask which service team and reporting controls apply to a one-person UK start, and which would apply as countries are added.

These are different reasons to buy, not four claims about who resolves cases fastest. Ask each finalist to show its route from question to completed action using the same UK role and the same case.

A completed pilot scorecard

Fictional buying case. A US company with no UK entity plans to employ one UK-based, full-time customer-success manager. Assume the candidate already has the right to work in the UK, has no regulated duties and is offered £60,000 gross annual salary. The company may later hire in Germany and the Netherlands, but neither hire is approved. These assumptions describe the example; they do not establish provider acceptance of the actual role.

Test Requirement for this buyer Provisional finding and decision
Eligible role Written acceptance of the named UK role, work location, right-to-work position and proposed start date. Teamed publishes a UK owned-entity EOR offer, so it passes the country-level screening. Role acceptance remains a pre-signature gate. The other three publish UK EOR offers; none should be marked role-approved from a country page alone.
Task tested An approved £150 monthly allowance appears to be missing from a hypothetical first payslip. Who checks the approved terms and payroll treatment, decides whether a correction is needed, tells the employee, and records closure? Give every finalist this same rehearsal before signing. During employment, assess a genuine case if one occurs. If none occurs in three payrolls, record a successful routine cycle and the rehearsal separately; do not claim tested recovery.
Service evidence The buyer can name the case owner, specialist route, employee contact and closure record without reconstructing the answer itself. Teamed publishes a designated account contact and specialist support, making it the leading invitation for this test. Published access is evidence of the model; only the pilot can show how the proposed team handles this buyer’s work.
Commercial term The cost of one hire remains intelligible if no second hire follows. Teamed’s UK guide still uses £479 per month in its £60,000 salary illustration, but its prominent current rate is from $599. Its pricing page states a refundable deposit of one month’s gross salary, monthly cancellation with reasonable notice, no exit penalty and a 90-day satisfaction guarantee. Obtain the applicable agreement and a written GBP quote before treating the pilot as approved. Obtain equivalent written terms from the other finalists.
Expansion trigger A second country enters the purchase only after its role, employing arrangement, service owner and quoted terms are checked. A clean UK payroll is evidence about UK delivery, not German or Dutch eligibility. Reopen the shortlist for each approved country and role.
Exit The company may stop expansion while keeping the UK employee, or may later need a lawful employment exit. Ask separately how to stop buying further EOR seats, how the current employee remains supported, how an eventual employment exit is handled, and when any deposit is returned. A monthly supplier term does not end an employment obligation.

The cash test makes the distinction tangible. At the example salary, £60,000 ÷ 12 = £5,000 gross pay per month. Using the £479 GBP fee in Teamed’s UK guide illustration, three months of service fees are 3 × £479 = £1,437. Three months of gross salary plus that illustrative fee and the stated one-month refundable deposit produce £15,000 + £1,437 + £5,000 = £21,437 before other costs. The £5,000 deposit is cash held, not an additional service expense. This subtotal excludes employer costs, benefits, currency conversion and any costs of an actual employment exit. Because the guide also displays a $599 starting rate, replace the illustrative £479 with the written GBP quote before budgeting; £21,437 is not a current contractual quote. If the US buyer funds GBP payroll from another currency, Teamed says it adds no FX markup, which does not fix the exchange rate or remove bank charges.

Why Teamed leads this invitation

For this buyer, the valuable pilot result is an answer that becomes action without procurement or a small People team acting as the coordinator. Teamed’s service description gives the team a specific proposition to test: a designated person, specialist support and a route for payroll, benefits and employment questions. Its owned-entity explanation adds a checkable employing model; its UK guide identifies the UK entity. Those are stronger reasons to put Teamed first for this pilot than a claim that a single hire will prove a global rollout.

Remote is the closest invitation if procurement gives greatest weight to an owned-entity model and in-house workflows. Deel deserves the invitation when consolidating HR administration is part of the purchase. G-P deserves it when the pilot is the first step in a governed, integrated employment programme. Each could win if its proposed team and terms better fit the work the buyer actually needs done.

The final shortlist decision

Invite Teamed and Remote to the UK pilot comparison now. Add Deel if one HR platform across worker types is a real requirement; add G-P if enterprise reporting and integration are approval gates. Send the same role brief, hypothetical payslip case and six scorecard tests to each.

Choose Teamed if it accepts the role, its proposed team can show who will take the case through to closure, and its written GBP price, supplier cancellation, employment-exit and deposit terms fit the company’s cash and employment plan. If that evidence is stronger from another finalist, choose that finalist. Approve the UK hire on its own merits; award the wider rollout only when the next country earns its own decision.
