For employers keeping their payroll system

The fictional employer has 300 employees across an office and several operating sites. It needs attendance capture, approvals, leave and a dependable payroll handoff. This is not a global workforce recommendation or a promise that a product will configure Japanese employment rules for you.

Rankings are editorial trial priorities based on public primary documentation. We have not measured reliability or run seven implementations. An employer replacing its entire HR and payroll stack should reorder the list around that larger project.

KING OF TIME: test your clock-in device and payroll connection

KING OF TIME lists browser, mobile, IC-card and several dedicated or biometric capture routes. That makes it a useful first trial for mixed workplaces. Demonstrate the actual device your site will use; a phone demo proves little about a shared entrance terminal.

Its hardware ordering guidance excludes certain terminals bought outside its own or the contracted reseller’s channel from support and operation guarantees. Reusing a device is a question to settle before signing.

Before sending hours to payroll, identify employees with missing punches or unapproved hours. Correct those records and check the final totals.

Jobcan: price attendance, shifts and leave together

Jobcan offers selectable attendance, shift and leave/application functions, with free telephone, email and chat enquiries and separately paid initial configuration assistance. Choose the attendance, shift and leave modules you need and price them together.

Ask which setup tasks the employer performs, which the supplier performs, and who maps the payroll fields. Budget staff time for any setup work the supplier does not include.

Touch On Time: help with setup and payroll connections

Touch On Time documents included support for recorder setup, work-rule configuration and payroll connections, including during its trial. Telephone hours are Monday–Friday, 09:00–18:00, excluding the stated holidays; round-the-clock email submission is not round-the-clock resolution.

That support is why it is third for a local HR team short of setup time. We have not compared the accuracy of its calculations with the other products. Use the trial to resolve one real configuration question and agree the ongoing support route.

The published system fee is ¥300 per person per month excluding tax, with devices charged separately. At 300 billable people, that is ¥90,000 monthly software cost before tax and hardware. It is a scoped calculation, not a complete implementation quote.

Money Forward: confirm you are buying Cloud Attendance Plus

Cloud Attendance Plus describes approval routes, qualified shift settings, configurable calculations, CSV exchange and a public API. Work-effort management is restricted to an upper plan. Shortlist it if you need those approval, shift or calculation settings.

Money Forward renamed AKASHI as Cloud Attendance Plus on 1 April 2026. Do not count both names as separate shortlist options. Nor should a demonstration of the standard Cloud Attendance product settle whether Plus meets the requirement.

Put the exact product, plan and payroll destination on the proposal. Ask the implementer to demonstrate the rule that made you consider Plus in the first place.

HRMOS: add leave, shift and setup costs to the base fee

HRMOS publishes ¥100 per person monthly for basic attendance, plus ¥100 for the specified paid leave/application option and ¥50 for shift management, excluding tax. For a fictional 300 billable employees requiring all three, the monthly software calculation is 300 × ¥250 = ¥75,000.

That figure covers the three software modules; it does not establish whether HRMOS costs less than Touch On Time once setup and support are included. Confirm support, implementation, devices and contract terms separately. The pricing page distinguishes included inquiry support on paid plans from additional support packages.

Consider HRMOS if someone on your team can configure the system and check the results. If you need the supplier to do that work, obtain a quote that includes it.

freee Attendance Plus: a KING OF TIME-based product for freee users

freee explicitly describes Attendance Plus as an OEM product of KING OF TIME. Consider it if you already use freee.

The product offers multiple capture methods, including shared devices, and LINE WORKS clocking and notifications. Test the connection to your freee payroll system and confirm who fixes missing or incorrect attendance records.

Compare the contract, support and payroll connection with KING OF TIME. Because the products share underlying technology, matching results in two demos are not an independent check of your pay rules.

jinjer: attendance alongside a shared HR database

jinjer positions attendance around its Core HR database and documents external access to employee and closed attendance data. That is relevant when reducing repeated people-data maintenance is part of the project.

Its support page separates Self and Basic. Basic is listed for 51 or more users at 30% of the total product fee per month. Ask whether your implementation depends on that tier, then include it in the quote.

Consider jinjer if you are also replacing employee records in HR. For an attendance-only purchase, compare the cost and setup work with a standalone system.

Test clocking, approvals and payroll transfer

  1. Use the site device. Capture a normal day, a missed punch and the supported recovery route. Confirm the employee can see what needs correction.
  2. Use two work patterns. Include an office worker and a site worker with employer-approved rules. The supplier must explain different results without editing totals by hand.
  3. Leave one approval pending. Identify the employee excluded from the close and the person responsible for resolving it.
  4. Carry time into payroll. Verify person, period, category and unit. Then approve a correction and reconcile the final input.

The detailed Japan attendance-to-payroll test provides a 450-to-480-minute correction example. Reuse it for the finalists.

Compare complete quotes for 300 employees

Start with KING OF TIME and Jobcan for this mixed office-and-site workforce. Add Touch On Time if your team needs setup help. Test freee or Money Forward first if you already use them; compare HRMOS if your own team can configure it.

Request a common 300-person scope covering software, leave and shifts, devices, setup, support, payroll configuration and who fixes errors after launch. Prices above are inspected examples, not equivalent full quotes. Choose a system only after your team can approve attendance, correct an error and transfer the final hours to payroll.
