Salary benchmarking / Three-way comparison
Ravio vs Figures vs Pave: which salary-data tool should you buy?
Compare the three tools
| Choose first | When your main job is… | Pricing scope |
|---|---|---|
| Ravio | Match job levels to market pay and build salary bands. | Published starting point: £5,400 a year for a 250-person company. Scope changes the quote. |
| Figures | Use benchmarks and salary bands in manager pay reviews. | Quote by headcount and selected modules; compare Structure with Companion. |
| Pave | Compare salary, new-hire equity offers and employee refresh grants. | Lite is free with limited market access; Pro is quoted. |
These are purchasing priorities, not accuracy rankings. We have not run identical jobs through the three products. A relevant match for the jobs you employ matters more than the largest headline database.
Ravio: salary benchmarks and role mapping
Ravio’s published core scope includes compensation data, filters and expert role mapping. Salary bands and pay-equity tools are presented as extensions. Its £5,400 annual starting point applies to a 250-person company; it is not a flat price for every buyer or an all-module bundle.
That makes Ravio a sensible first conversation when HR needs to turn inconsistent job titles into a usable market comparison. Its public coverage explorer includes the UK and Germany. Country availability does not establish the depth of every role and level within it.
If managers also need to submit and approve pay changes, compare pay-review tools alongside the benchmark subscription. Data access alone does not provide that process.
Figures: benchmarks and manager pay reviews
Figures describes Structure as including benchmarks, salary bands and foundational pay-equity tools. Companion adds annual and off-cycle reviews, decision history and manager access. Pricing depends on employee count and selected modules.
Compare Figures Companion when HR needs managers to propose pay changes and retain the decisions as well as consult salary benchmarks.
The benchmark product also offers a premium Mercer integration. Ask which Mercer data the quoted package includes and what the integration costs. The page says benchmarks update monthly after checks, despite daily collection.
Pave: salary and equity benchmarks
Pave Pro includes advanced equity benchmarks, custom peer groups and exports. Lite provides free access to US-overall data plus one additional market. A team pricing jobs in the UK, Germany and US should compare paid scope rather than treat Lite as a like-for-like alternative.
Pave’s methodology describes choices such as annualised versus total grant values and grant-date versus current equity values. That matters when the discussion is an offer or a refresh grant rather than salary alone.
Our reason to move Pave up is equity depth, not a claim that its salary numbers are universally better. Its methodology also describes calculated benchmarks for sparse data. Read the consistency information with the result instead of treating every displayed number as an equally strong observation.
A “senior engineer” is not a complete buying brief
Consider a fictional 250-person tech company hiring one engineer in London and another in Berlin, while reviewing equity for an existing US team. It has three different decisions, not one generic salary search.
| Decision | Fix before comparing results |
|---|---|
| London engineering offer | Role responsibilities, level, location policy and whether the comparison is base pay or total cash. |
| Berlin engineering offer | The same role-matching discipline, using the intended German market rather than converting a UK figure. |
| US equity refresh | Existing-employee refresh versus new-hire grant, valuation basis and annual versus total award. |
The tool should make those decisions easier to explain. It should not choose your pay policy by accident. Decide which employers you compete with and where you intend to position pay; then use the data to inform that choice.
For this company, we would compare Ravio and Figures for the European salary-and-bands brief, then include Pave Pro if the US equity review is substantial enough to belong in the same purchase. We would not pay for three overlapping datasets simply to avoid choosing.
Compare quotes for the same markets and modules
Ravio’s published example is useful because it puts a number into the initial budget discussion. Figures and Pave Pro need quotes for the chosen scope, so this research cannot establish which is cheapest.
Compare the markets and pay components you need, the work involved in mapping jobs, and whether salary bands or review workflows replace anything you already buy. Keep a one-off salary-pricing project separate from a year-round compensation programme.
Before the demo: start with the next three pay decisions your team must make. Choose the product that covers those decisions clearly and fits the work you will keep doing. If reviews rather than data are the main problem, use our compensation-planning shortlist before buying another benchmark subscription.
Request a Ravio demo, compare Figures or request Pave. Select the country where you will use the software. People Ops Buyer handles the request and follows up; no meeting is booked until confirmed.
Questions buyers ask
Is Pave free for UK and German salary benchmarking?
Pave Lite publishes access to US overall plus one additional market. It is not unrestricted access to both the UK and Germany alongside the US; compare the paid scope for that requirement.
Does Ravio cost £5,400 for every company?
No. Ravio publishes that annual starting point for a 250-person company. Its pricing varies with company size, selected modules and market-data needs.
Should I choose the provider with the most salary records?
Not on that number alone. The relevant jobs, levels, locations and compensation components determine whether the data helps your decisions. This comparison does not rank the providers by measured accuracy.
