1 · AwardcoSupervisors give workers physical AwardCodes to redeem for rewards.A physical card still requires digital redemption. Confirm how staff without company email can sign in.
2 · BonuslyFrequent peer recognition through mobile, Slack and Teams.Staff without Slack or Teams need another supported way to send and receive recognition.
3 · GuustoManager-led rewards with email, SMS and printed delivery routes.Sender and recipient seats differ. Peer recognition needs sending permissions for every participant.
4 · NectarRecognition and targeted employee communications are being bought together.Custom rewards are fulfilled by your team or an outside vendor; Nectar does not take over vendor billing.
5 · WorkhumanA parent company needs different teams to manage awards and monitor spending.Delegated award controls add little if one HR team approves every award and manages the budget.
6 · AchieversRecognition, nominations and service milestones need one global programme.Global rewards and nomination approvals may add unnecessary complexity if you only need everyday recognition.
7 · MotivosityRecognition sits alongside company community, milestones and gifting.Community features need staff time for publishing updates and moderating discussions.

The last three move up when this is part of a larger corporate rollout. For this 300-person employer, start with the first three unless you need the additional company-wide controls.

Which workforce is this shortlist for?

The assumed buyer has 300 US employees: 250 work across operational shifts and 50 have regular office access. HR wants everyday recognition and service milestones, not a replacement for pay, a sales incentive system or a new performance rating. These are fictional buying requirements, not a customer case study.

Our order favours routes that can reach this workforce. An employer with universal Slack access should weight the order differently from a warehouse where phones are restricted during work. The shift supervisor's delivery process belongs in the evaluation alongside the software.

Awardco: physical cards for frontline recognition

Awardco documents AwardCodes as customisable points cards that employees scan or enter to redeem. Supervisors can hand out the cards during a shift.

Redeeming the card still requires digital access. Require a demonstration for a fictional worker without a company email address, using the actual proposed authentication method and a permitted device.

Then try a lost card and an already-used code. We have not verified those recovery behaviours in an account.

The published plan detail also describes configurable points expiry, including termination-related rules. Make that configuration an explicit employee-policy decision. Test what happens to earned rewards when an employee is marked as a leaver in HR.

Bonusly: peer recognition through mobile, Slack or Teams

Bonusly describes peer recognition, Slack and Teams connections, mobile giving and redemption. Include workers from each shift in the trial, especially those who do not use Slack or Teams.

In the trial, have a night worker thank a colleague on another shift, with no supervisor doing it for them. Judge the whole sequence from discovering the colleague to receiving the reward. If access requires borrowing an office login or waiting for HR, the peer model has failed your operating test.

Choose Bonusly ahead of physical cards when workers on every shift can use it and peer recognition is the priority.

Guusto: manager-led recognition across shifts

Guusto lists email, SMS, print and QR delivery options. Those delivery methods suit employees who do not share a collaboration app. They still need testing against your contact information, device access and redemption process.

Guusto prices sender and recipient seats differently. Quote the managers who will send rewards and all intended recipients. If every employee needs to send recognition, include those sending permissions too.

Ask managers to recognise a specific contribution across shifts and inspect who was missed.

Nectar: recognition and employee communications together

Nectar separates Recognize, Engage and Comms bundles; Comms includes targeted lists, multichannel delivery and texting. Compare Nectar if you need employee communications as well as recognition.

If communications already works, require a recognition-only comparison before buying the broader package.

Its Custom Rewards help says those rewards are fulfilled by the employer or an outside vendor. The notification does not take over vendor billing. Put one custom reward through the proposed process and identify who handles the failed delivery.

Options for a wider recognition programme

Workhuman: delegated oversight

Workhuman describes delegated award administration, spend monitoring and programme analysis. It moves up when the local employer belongs to a larger organisation needing those controls.

Give its administrator the task of replacing an absent approver without changing a worker's award or exposing unrelated teams.

Achievers: coordinated award programmes

Achievers includes monetary and non-monetary recognition, nominations, service milestones and a global rewards marketplace in its proposition. We would bring it forward when these are one coordinated programme.

Ask the programme owner to show how everyday thanks remains available even when a separate nomination award needs approval.

Motivosity: recognition and company community

Motivosity offers custom bundles spanning social recognition, milestones, gifting and community. Consider it if HR also wants to run those community and milestone features.

Ask for the recognition-only configuration as well as the proposed bundle. Include staff time for publishing updates, moderating discussions and delivering rewards.

Test access, mistakes and leavers across every shift

Use an approved test environment and fictional employees. Give every finalist the same four cases and record the result yourself:

No company email.

Deliver recognition, authenticate through the proposed supported route and reach a usable reward. Record any dependence on a private device or personal contact details.

Different shift.

Recognise a colleague who is not present and confirm that the intended recipient can discover it. A supervisor saying they distributed cards is not confirmation of receipt.

Wrong delivery.

Send the test award to the wrong fictional recipient. Show the authorised correction path, the audit trail and what changes if the reward has already been redeemed.

Departure with a balance.

Apply the proposed leaver policy and explain the remaining access and reward treatment. Compare the demonstration with the contract.

Record failed attempts and support time, not just successful completions. This fictional pilot shows why the groups need separate results:

  • Office: 18 of 20 complete the process: 90%.
  • Frontline: eight of 20 complete it: 40%.
  • Combined: 65% complete it, concealing the difference between groups.

Record completion and support time separately for each workforce group. These invented figures are not product results or a recommended statistical sample.

Compare quotes for the same 300 employees

Request a quote for the same 300 employees, covering:

  • Sender and recipient permissions, service milestones and access channels.
  • Integrations, implementation and support.
  • The reward catalogue, funding, fulfilment and continuing HR work.

We did not obtain comparable quotes for these seven configurations, so we cannot identify the cheapest.

Keep subscription, reward funding and fulfilment distinct. Use our recognition budget reconciliation to track allowance, earned rewards, redemption and cash without double-counting.

Ask payroll to specify the required reporting and treatment before rollout; a vendor's reporting feature is not an employer-specific tax determination.

Exclude any option that workers on each shift cannot use. Compare the remaining quotes using the same sending permissions, reward budget and support requirements.

Questions buyers ask

What is the best recognition platform for frontline employees?

For the stated 300-person US buyer, Awardco is our first trial for physical AwardCodes, Bonusly for frequent digital peer recognition and Guusto for manager-led delivery alternatives. The final choice depends on a successful access and redemption test for the actual workforce.

Does an offline recognition card mean redemption works offline?

No. Physical delivery and digital redemption are separate steps. Demonstrate authentication, device access and reward use for employees without regular office systems access.

When should I shortlist Guusto?

Shortlist Guusto when managers will send rewards by email, SMS or print. Quote sender and recipient permissions for your intended programme; a programme where everyone sends recognition needs different permissions.

Should every employee be able to send recognition?

If peer recognition is the objective, price and test that permission for the intended population. A manager-only reward programme is a different design and should be evaluated on that basis.

Can recognition software replace better pay or management?

No. Use it to run recognition and rewards. Evaluate pay and management problems separately; this guide has not measured effects on employee turnover.
