What £1.30 a month means for 500 employees
Wisdom Wellbeing’s pricing page, reached from Health Assured’s pricing URL, advertises a starting price of £1.30 per person monthly, plus VAT, for 100 or more employees on a 60-month term. We inspected it on 2 October 2026.
For a fictional employer billed for 500 people at exactly that rate, with no price changes, the arithmetic is:
| Period | Calculation | Before VAT |
|---|---|---|
| One month | 500 × £1.30 | £650 |
| One year | £650 × 12 | £7,800 |
| Five years | £650 × 60 | £39,000 |
This does not establish a fixed five-year price or termination liability. Obtain the actual quote, headcount adjustment rules, price-review provisions and contract terms. The point is to compare the commitment behind the unit price.
Compare service scope and cancellation terms
A five-year arrangement can suit an employer with stable needs and clear accountability. It is less attractive when the buyer is still discovering whether employees can access the service or whether an existing insurance benefit already covers part of the requirement.
Request the same required service scope on the offered term options. Compare notice deadlines, renewal mechanics, permitted changes and the process if service standards are missed. Do not assume that a monthly price means monthly cancellation.
Use the access exercise below before agreeing a long term, particularly for employees without work email or regular office access.
Unlimited calls do not mean unlimited structured counselling
The provider’s counselling page says Core may provide up to six structured sessions and Wisdom Super Care up to twelve, following clinical assessment. Those are different from unlimited access to a helpline.
Ask the supplier to define the session allowance in the proposed contract: per person, issue or year; the session length; available channels; assessment requirements; and what happens when someone needs a different service. A maximum allowance is not a promise that every person receives that maximum.
Leave clinical decisions to the qualified service team. The buyer should be able to explain the access route and boundaries accurately without promising a treatment outcome.
“Access to” and “preferential rates” need a second price column
Wisdom’s package page distinguishes included services from offerings at preferential rates, including occupational-health assessments and specialist services. Do not read the entire service list as prepaid entitlement.
The UK EAPA buyer’s guide asks purchasers to establish the utilisation assumptions, session model, extra-session prices and included promotion or training. Use those questions to obtain a priced service schedule.
| Service | What the quote must say |
|---|---|
| Helpline | Who is eligible, access channels and hours. |
| Structured counselling | Assessment route, allowance basis, channels and additional-session terms. |
| Family access | Eligible relationships, ages and the services they can actually use. |
| Specialist services | Included, discounted or separately commissioned—and by whom. |
| Launch and reporting | Included communications, manager guidance, reporting definitions and review cadence. |
Walk through the route without making a fake clinical enquiry
Ask for a supplier-led demonstration using fictional administrative scenarios. Do not place a mystery call pretending to be an employee needing care.
- No work email: show how an eligible frontline employee finds and accesses the service.
- Outside office hours: distinguish immediate contact from the next available structured appointment.
- Family member: show how eligibility is established and where their entitlement differs.
- Different access need: explain the available language, accessibility or channel arrangements and any limits.
- Beyond this benefit: have the supplier explain its onward pathway, charges and responsibility when the requested support is outside scope.
Record the proposed service standards in the contract. A good demonstration is evidence of the intended workflow, not proof of future waiting times.
Report service users separately from contacts
Use a fictional quarter with a constant eligible population of 500 employees. Twenty distinct employees make 45 contacts. That is 4% employee reach and nine contacts per 100 eligible employees. Calling both figures “9% utilisation” would lose the distinction.
Ask the supplier to define the numerator, denominator, reporting period and treatment of family members, repeat contacts and digital activity. Do not compare providers until those definitions match.
Request a sample aggregate report and the rules for suppressing small groups. The buying exercise does not require names, counselling notes or individual clinical records. Agree what HR can use to improve access without trying to identify service users.
Buy a service people can reach and a contract you understand
We would favour the proposal that explains eligibility, access, limits and extra charges clearly, even if it is not the lowest headline rate. We would hold a purchase when the supplier cannot distinguish helpline access from structured sessions or cannot explain its utilisation report.
Neither app registrations nor more calls alone prove better outcomes. Review access and service delivery alongside the employer’s own work to address workplace problems.
Questions buyers ask
How much does an EAP cost per employee in the UK?
There is no market-wide rate established here. Wisdom Wellbeing publishes a starting rate of £1.30 per person monthly plus VAT, assuming 100-plus employees and a 60-month term. Obtain a quote for the exact workforce, service and duration.
Does unlimited EAP access mean unlimited counselling sessions?
Not necessarily. Helpline access and structured counselling allowances are separate. Check the contracted session model, assessment route and any additional charges.
How should employers compare EAP utilisation?
Match definitions first. Distinct service users, contacts, app activity and completed sessions are different measures. Use a consistent eligible population and period, with suitable aggregate reporting.
